Artus Jr. ( my g.g.g. grandfather) was born in Minsterworth, Glos. on
October 26th 1800. He became a butcher by trade, and it was because of
this calling that he found himself in deep trouble in 1822 when he
was imprisoned, along with his elder brother, John, for being in possession of "two fat cows, well knowing them to have been stolen".|
and John were both acquitted, and it would appear that, to this end,
their father, William Artus Snr., paid some sort of compensation to the
aggrieved farmer, Edmonds, as in his will, there was no money left to the pair "as they have had their shares before".
