William,
the
son of Thomas and
Ann Arthers (Artus), was born in the Gloucestershire village of
Hawkesbury in 1768. He married Sarah Wathern in 1793, and
they set up home in Minsterworth, where they later kept a shop. There
were 12 children of the marriage, and Sarah died in 1820 at the age of
45. Three years later, William married a widow, Susannah Browning, and she
died in 1842. William passed away in 1848 and was buried alongside
Sarah and two of their daughters, Sarah and Eliza, in the churchyard at
Minsterworth. Susannah's grave has not been located.
