1. John Artus, who in 1871 was a widow, has now remarried (1875).
2. This is possibly Amy Eleanor, daughter of Joseph Robert and Amy Artus, Cheltenham (1871 census).
3. Anne Artus is shown as a widow, but this is probably an error on the part of the enumerator.
4. William Charles married Emily Ann Hawkes later in the year. She died in 1890 and he is shown as a widower in 1891.
5. Samuel was sentenced to 2 years hard labour in 1878 for embezzlement.
